Dear friend,
Greetings.
I love my job. I love being a pastor and over the last 29 years of pastoring (and before that leading youth groups) I have experienced some pretty big highs.
Another high to add to that list happened last Sunday when we had two baptisms at church. The two guys, Pakira and Eric that got baptised are adults, one aged in his 70s and one in his 30s. It was incredible to hear their testimonies of how God had been, and still is, working in their lives. These guys have been through a heck of a lot in their lives with so many stories to tell.
The older of the two, Pakira, started coming to church because a 16-year-old guy in our church started talking to him at a local park. They established a friendship and the young guy invited him to church and was part of his baptism on Sunday. How awesome is that? It just shows age is no barrier.
The other guy, Eric, was walking past the church one morning with his partner. They had been having a bit of a rough time and as they walked past, he said to her, “Why don’t we go to church?” and they did, and have been coming regularly ever since.
I have to tell you, there were not too many dry eyes at church on Sunday as we witnessed them get baptised and as people shared encouraging words or significant verses with them.
What is so exciting is that both of these guys are hungry for the Word of God, they lap it up, can’t get enough. And that’s it, isn’t it? It is the Word of God that brings about change.
Seeing the incredible transformation in their lives makes me all the more determined to continue making the life-giving, life-saving message of the gospel of Jesus available to all, whether they are local here in Mt Wellington or in a remote village in Ghana with no electricity or church. Sharing Jesus, Giving Hope and Transforming Communities is what it’s all about.
One of my favourite passages and, I believe, a seminal chapter in the Bible is Hebrews4. In it there are these verses:
12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
Thankyou for helping us get the ‘alive and active’ Word of God to those that need to hear. Bless you for your partnership with us.
May your Easter be a very special one as you celebrate Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. Praise God thatwe, together, have the incredible privilege of being able to tell thiswonderful story.
